Michael Appleton anticipates a difficult tie on Tuesday night despite their opponent’s struggles to date this season.

The boss respects the quality of the Doncaster squad and acknowledges they will have to battle as hard as they did on Saturday to get their desired result.

He said: “We’re playing against a side who from an expectation point of view have very little on them at this moment in time with where they are. That makes them more dangerous so we have to go into the game with a determination and an understanding that the times when we dug in on Saturday, we may have to do that again.

“I’d like to think the message that comes from myself and the staff makes it very clear to the players that tomorrow is going to be as difficult a game as Saturday was and the previous Tuesday. The players are aware of that and know that on any given day, any team can beat anybody and I think it’s shown over the last few weeks.”

Appleton sung Brooke Norton-Cuffy’s praises after he impressed on his first start for the Imps on Saturday, earning Man of the Match.

He added: “Brooke has done fantastically well and I think we’ve seen glimpses of that in the three or four games prior to Wycombe when he came off the bench.

“He’s got a great pedigree coming from a club with the size and stature of Arsenal. The thing I like about Brooke is his mentality and attitude. He’s got great physical attributes but his mentality and eagerness to do well is the thing that impresses me the most.”
