Imps striker John Marquis says he takes accountability for being the goal scorer in the current City side.
After netting twice in the victory over Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, the frontman has now bagged five goals in nine games since his arrival in January. While John admits he is pleased with his start, he is determined to achieve more for the squad.
He said: “For me, to score two and help the team get a much-needed win and a big result was very pleasing. My main job as a striker is to score goals and that’s what you get judged on.
“You want to help the team as much as you can and I think that is best done by scoring the goals and keeping the performances high. There is a responsibility to keep getting in the areas and to keep putting them away.
“I feel really confident. Physically I feel good and I feel as close to 100% as I have done in a long time physically and mentally."
With a dozen games remaining for the Imps, John has tasked himself and his team-mates with replicating the performance levels from Saturday, starting with the trip to Ipswich.
He added: “There are 12 games left and every point matters coming to the final block of the season and I’m confident going into them
“No game is more or less important than another. Saturday was a benchmark for us and moving onto Tuesday and beyond we have set a standard for where we want to be in terms of physical output and application to the game.
“We want to wind the games we have left down into a mini-season - let’s see how many points we can get. We need to look at what we have done well on Saturday and take that into the rest of the season.
“For me the glass is half full and there is a lot more to come from us to finish this season strongly and looking towards next."
