The Imps have been rated as one of the best EFL clubs for sustainability in a new index.

City were the ninth-highest rated club in League One in the Sport Positive EFL League One Sustainability Table Matrix and in a joint 21st position in the overall table of all 72 EFL clubs.

City scored nine points across 11 categories, such as waste management, clean energy and education.

The club scored highest in the communication and engagement on sustainability category following its environmental sustainability policy We Are Greener Imps which has been written as part of the club’s Green Team action work, introducing the #GreenerImps, ensure robust governance of policy and strategy and raised awareness of using smart meters.

Ellie Sprigg, City’s operations and logistics manager and part of the club’s green team, said: “This ranking shows that we are on the right track, but there is still plenty more to do.

“The club recognise the climate crisis, and are determined to improve sustainability across all areas.

“We have made great progress such as none of the waste we produce ends up in landfill, we have replaced the majority of the lights around the stadium with LED lights to save energy and we have installed water saving sensors on the urinals around the stadium.”
